Hello all, and welcome to my animating tutorial! As this is only showing you TECHNIQUES of animation, it can be compatible with any program you use. I will be showing you how to CREATE the frames.
Please note, this will NOT teach you how to animate. If you are looking for a tutorial on how to animate or just a basic avatar tutorial, I recommend using marasign123's tutorial.
Now, this will show you my animating TECHNIQUES. To learn how I animate my letters, we'll start off with something I find particularly easy: Fading.
Open up whatever animating program you are using. For my purpose of time, I will be using animation shop. Using any font color you want, use a SMALL font to write your name. (Make sure antialiasing is OFF!)
Then outline it with a (different colour) rectangle and fill in all boxes inside that. It should look something like this:

PLEASE NOTE: This is zoomed in, yours should be 100x100 or smaller, preferably 50x50.
Now, if you are on paint, SAVE as frame 1, Gimp add a new layer, so on. Basically, we're going to make another frame now.
Now, just fill in the letters with a lighter color. In mine, I will be filling in my BLUE letters with a greener blue since I will be fading to my rectangle colour, GREEN. Here's an example of what I mean:

PLEASE NOTE: Although the font on the second frame doesn't look lighter, it is. xD
Now, continue to make more frames. Each time you make a new frame, your font should be "greener" than the last time. IMPORTANT TIP: The MORE frames you have, the better it will look. For my example, having around 6 or so would be good.
Now, all the frames together will look like this:
Now, when saving for ALL animations on this page, you'll want to make the time between the frames really small. On blibs and lunapic, when it asks for the times between frames, USE A DECIMAL POINT. On Gimp, around 100ish miliseconds is fine for me.
Your finished product will look something like this:
NOTE: You should probably use more contrasting colours so it's easier to see as well... xD Black/white might've been better.
Sliding animation.
