There are currently about 16 milion people in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is a flat country, we havent got any mountains, just a few small hills. We have lots of ocean around us on the west and north side. We have windmills, which used to pump the water out of the land, to gain more land from the sea. They were also used to make bread from grain.

Here in the Netherlands, we have a kids choir called Kinderen voor Kinderen, making a show every year since 1980. The kids are aged 8-12 and they can sing and dance.
This is an old LIVE song with english lyrics in the more info part. Laura sang it to let her stephdad know her mum will be hers tomorrow. She sang it very well and its a popular song for children

This song is about having two fathers who have adopted you. Terence doesnt really have two fathers, its just part of the show. This song has been watched by the whole world, look at the reactions. I just think he sings it really well(though this isnt LIVE).

We have christmas on the 25th and 26th of December. Most people have decorations and a christmas tree in and around their home. We dont have a santa claus
New Years Day
We celebrate the new year as well. We call it old and new years day. At midnight, lots of people set off fireworks to celebrate the beginning of a new year.
Sinterklaas

This is the biggest 5th of December event in the Netherlands. Saint Nicholas was a holy figure long long time ago (couldnt care to look it up properly.). He gave stuff to children, in his great generosity.
Sinterklaas now a days is an old guy in a cloak, dress, hat (Mijter) and he wears a staff. His helpers are made black with paint and they wear weird suits. We celebrate this day (5th of december) by giving each other and children in particular presents and sweets. (They think its Sinterklaas who gives it) It is known that when the dutch came to Amerika (new Amsterdam- New York later on), they kept this tradition. Thats how Santa Claus became reality in America (this is true, look it up!

The Lama's are 4 guys and a guest who improvise their way through games. In this particular one, they play the dating show. The one on the stool has to guess who the other 4 are. While they are playing they notice the interpreter of the death trying to translate the idiotic stuff they say and they play a trick on her :D very funny indeed:

The Efteling is a kind of theme park. It involves fairy tales and made up creatures.

World Wars
I would like to start with the world wars. In World War I we were neutral. In World War II we werent as lucky. The German invaded us and killed Milions of Jews and many more innocent people. You might have heard of Anne Frank. A Jewish girl who went into hiding with her family and some others in a secret part of the building where her father worked. They were discovered and deported to the concentration camps, where only her father survived. She kept a diary during the war, which is translated and read all over the world. Here is a very touching clip about her life:

The flood of 1953
In 1953, there was a huge flood in the Netherlands. It happened early in the morning, when people were asleep. Lots of people died and they had a hard time getting their lifes back together. Its a time to remember. Here is a video about it, this is the real footage, so it should give you a (good) impression on what it was like.

Fireworks Disaster Enschede
In 2000, a fireworks depot exploded, which was placed in the midst of a town in the Netherlands. People didnt even know the depot was this big, untill something made the entire depot explode. Someone had a camera and filmed the whole thing. The following video might be traumatizing for small children as its real footage. The video will explain more

Queensday Attack On Royal Family 2009
We celebrate the queen on a special day. This day was ruined this year because of ONE man. He drove a car through the crowd,through the fences, almost hit the bus with the royal family and crashed into a statue. Why he did this, no one knows. 9 people including himself died in the horrible attack. So we will never know why he did this. The Whole Netherlands were shocked, especially our dear Queen. Next year she will come to Zeeland, the state where i live. I hope that day will be better. This is a video with footage right after it happened, there are bodies on the ground and shocked people around.
